In 1969, 3 different models were available in the United States and Europe. These included the 911T, the 911E, and the 911S. The engine displacement remained at 2.0 liters. The 911T remained as the base model, the 911E Einspritzung (German for injection)
the luxury model, and the 911S Super was the model with the most horsepower, rated at 170 @ 6800RPM.
The single battery was replaced with a twin 12-volt battery configuration. Each battery was mounted in the front fender ahead of the wheels for weight distribution. Did they think of everything? Almost, the only problem with the dual battery configuration is that over time there is twice the battery maintenance and even more significantly, there are two potential corrosion areas to deal with instead of one. Many of these early 911's have been reconfigured to a single battery system today.
Historic racing 1969 Porsche 911 S
This car can be seen racing around in Historic racing events like Laguna Seca where these photos were taken. This is the famed racecar of Bruce Jennings, still getting workouts regularly. If you see and hear it in person, enjoy the moment because it is tangible history, still relished by early 911 enthusiasts.
1969 911E Coupe
The engine displacement was 2.0 liters for all three models with the E and S models using Bosch fuel injection. The T model came with carburetors and was rated at 110 horsepower, the E model was rated 140 horsepower, and the S model was rated at 170 horsepower.
Enthusiasm runs deep in this 1969 RGruppe car
